Heartrending ballads & raucous ditties
Mistress Murphy gave a party
Just about a week ago.
Everything was plentiful,
The Murphys, they're not slow.
They treated us like gentlemen;
We tried to act the same,
All before what happened...
Well, it was an awful shame. (it’was an awful shame)
When Mrs. Murphy dished the chowder out,
She fainted on the spot;
She found a pair of overalls
At the bottom of the pot.
Tim Nollan, he got reaping mad,
His eyes were bulging out,
He jumped up on the piano
And loudly did he shout:
"Who threw the overalls
In Mistress Murphy's chowder?"
Nobody spoke, so he
Shouted all the louder.
"It's an Irish trick that's true,
I can lick the drip that threw
The overalls in Mistress Murphy's chowder."
They dragged the pants from out the soup
And laid them on the floor;
Each man swore upon his life,
He'd ne'er seen them before.
They were plastered up with mortar
And had patches on the knee,
They'd had their many ups and downs
As we could plainly see. (we could plainly see)
And when Mistress Murphy, she came to,
She b'gan to cry and pout,
She had them in the wash that day
And forgot to take them out.
Tim Nollan, he excused himself
For what he said that night,
So we put music to the words
And sang with all our might:
"Who threw the overalls
In Mistress Murphy's chowder?"
Nobody spoke, so we
Shouted all the louder.
"It's an Irish trick that's true,
And we'll lick the drip that threw
The overalls in Mistress Murphy's chowder.
The overalls in Mistress Murphy's chowder."

Re: Heartrending ballads & raucous ditties
Allez une autre (celle-là est celle dont l'accent m'a fait le plus délirer!!)
Waiting at the Church
I'm in a nice bit of trouble, I confess;
Somebody with me has had a game.
I should by now be a proud and happy bride,
But I've still got to keep my single name.
I was proposed to by Obadiah Binks In a very gentlemanly way;
I Lent him all me money so that he could buy a home,
And punctually at twelve o'clock to-day-
CHORUS:
There was I, waiting at the church,
Waiting at the church,
Waiting at the church;
When I found he'd left me in the lurch,
Lor, how it did upset me!
All at once, he sent me round a note
Here's the very note,
And this is what he wrote:
"I Can't get away to marry you today,
My wife, won't let me!"
Lor, what a fuss Obadiah made of me
When he used to take me in the park!
You know, He used to squeeze me till I was black and blue,
When he kissed me he used to leave a mark.
Each time he met me he treated me to (port),
Took me now and then to see the play;
Well, Understand me rightly, when I say he treated me,
It wasn't him but me that used to pay.
CHORUS:
There was I, waiting at the church,
Waiting at the church,
Waiting at the church;
When I found he'd left me in the lurch,
Lor, how it did upset me!
All at once, he sent me round a note
Here's the very note,
And this is what he wrote:
"I Can't get away to marry you today,
My wife, won't let me!"
Bien sûr à chanter avec un accent cookney époutable!

Re: Heartrending ballads & raucous ditties
They say I'm crazy
Got no sense
But I don't care
They may or may not mean offence
But I don't care
You see, I'm sort of independent
other clever race descendant (?)
my star is on the ascendant
That's why I don't care
I don't care, I don't care
What they may think of me
I'm happy-go-lucky, they say that I'm plucky
So jolly and carefree
I don't care I Don't care
if I do get a mean and stony stare
If I'm never successful it won't be distressful
Cause I don't care
Some people say I think I’m it
But I don’t care
They say they don’t like me a bit
But I don’t care But my good nature ever vessing ( ???je sais ça veut rien dire mais j’ai rien de mieux)
Is that there is no distressing
My spirit there is no oppressing
Just cause I don’t care
I don’t care I don’t care
If people don’t like me
I’ll try to outlive it, I know I’ll forgive it
And live contentedly
I don’t care I don’t care
If people do not try to treat me fair
There is no kind of maze me dislike cannot daze me
Cause I don’t care
I don't care I Don't care
if I do get a mean and stony stare
If I'm never successful it won't be distressful (j’adore comment elle roule les rrrrr à ce moment là!)
Cause I don't care.
